Advanced Resuscitation Techniques

The Advanced Resuscitation Techniques (ART) course develops the skills and knowledge required to manage life-threatening external bleeding and perform advanced resuscitation. It includes the use of oxygen therapy, airway management devices and automated external defibrillators, as well as administering oxygen to both conscious and unconscious patients.

Course Requirements

To undertake this course, candidates must:

  • Be at least 15 years of age on the date of final assessment
  • Be a current financial member of a Surf Life Saving club
  • Hold the unit of competency HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid


If you do not already hold HLTAID011, it can be completed as part of the training program. First Aid training will be delivered on a Saturday (9:00am–4:00pm), with dates confirmed once participant numbers are finalised.

Course Outcome

Upon successful completion, participants will be equipped with the skills to perform advanced resuscitation techniques as part of surf lifesaving operations.

Participants will also receive the following nationally recognised unit of competency:

  • HLTAID015 – Provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy
